Re-Elect Democratic Candidate KEN ATKINS State Representative Chittenden 3-6 It is an honor and a privilege for me to serve as your VOICE IN MONTPELIER; 10 years as a WINOOSKI representative with the last 4 years including part of BURLINGTON’s WARD 1. I have been a member of the House Government Operations / Local Government Committee (6 years as Vice-Chair) during my 10 years in Montpelier. During the last biennium alone, this committee has sponsored 147 bills in addition to 35 bills which I personally sponsored. No one knows better than my wife and I how challenging it is to survive in today’s economy: rising taxes, utility costs, medical care, food prices and fuel to heat our homes and drive our vehicles. It is frightening to think what the future might hold for our children and grandchildren. We must find alternatives to the property tax for financing education, we must protect retirement benefits for senior citizens and ensure that these benefits will still be available in the future, we must develop a plan for seeing to it that all citizens of Vermont have health insurance coverage, we must find a way to lower prescription drugs costs, we must develop plans for alternative sources of energy, we must enact legislation to protect women and children from predators, we must find incentives to encourage business growth in the state. I could continue, but I’m sure we’re all very well aware of the problems we all face. I’m asking that you send me back to Montpelier so that I can use my experience to work diligently toward finding solutions to these problems. General Election Tuesday, November 4, 2008
